Some of our favourite uses for coconut (other than eating it!)

Coconut food products have increased in popularity with vegans and those looking for dairy alternatives or healthier substitutes. While there is debate about the saturated fats levels in coconut, it has a lot more benefits that make it useful around the house too.

  1. Hair Heaven

Coconut oil is a great way to calm down frizzy hair and protect split ends. Remember that a small amount can go a very long way. Apply to dry hair all over, leave for as long as possible, then rinse with warm water. The fatty acids in the oil also penetrate hair to give it a deep conditioning treatment.

  1. Kitchen Queen

You can be a master of the kitchen with some coconut oil to hand. It can be used for a number of tasks; from shining stainless steel to preventing water stains on sinks. The waste products from the production of coconut oil are often burnt causing CO2 pollution. Here at NatBrands, we’re not a fan of waste, so we turn the waste products into washing and cleaning utensils for our LoofCo range. The coconut fibres and husk are used to create our LoofCo Washing-up Scraper, Scrubbing brush and Washing-Up Brush.

  1. Goodbye bugs

With Spring in full swing, you may have more bugs finding their way into your home. Coconut oil can be used as a natural repellent if you mix 230ml of coconut oil with 40 drops of peppermint essential oil. Spray it around the house, or even apply to your skin to keep them away!

  1. Fresh Face and Smooth Shave

Coconut oil helps draw out dirt, oil and other toxins from your skin. It even removes stubborn makeup. Massage a small amount into your skin and apply a warm, wet washcloth to your face until it cools. Don’t forget to wipe your face afterwards. Instead of using harsh soaps or shaving cream, rub coconut oil on your skin before shaving. It protects your skin from being pulled too much, allowing the razor to easily glide across.

  1. Luscious Laundry

If you thought coconut oil was only moisturising for skin, think again! It acts as the base for the plant-based surfactant and softener used in our ECOS Laundry Detergent, as well as the surfactants used for the entire ECOS range. It leaves your clothes smelling fresh and feeling super soft.

  1. Sticky labels

We know all too well how annoying it can be when a label doesn’t come off in one. To get the rest of the label off your item, try putting some coconut oil on it and leave for a while. This should soften the rest and easily wipe off afterwards, leaving no stickiness behind.
