Gorgeous Geranium: The Gifted Properties of Geranium Essential Oil

Beautifully vibrant geranium flowers are an uplifting sight for most of us. What’s more this plant is full of special properties that make its essential oil an effective addition to natural products and fragrances.

The rose geranium essential oil in our Waft Air Freshener is extracted from the plant Pelargonium Graveolens. This plant originated from countries such as South Africa, Reunion, Madagascar, Egypt and Morocco before being introduced to European counties in the 17th Century. It has a rosy smell, whereas the more commonly known geranium essential oil has a wild ‘lemon-apple’ smell.

Below are some of the reasons why we love using geranium as one of the natural ingredients in our Waft Room Fragrance Spray and Soap:

Healing Properties

The adrenal cortex in the brain is stimulated by the crisp essential oil, which helps to balance the nervous system, lift depression, and relieve anxiety and stress. The antiseptic properties are an aid to burns, wounds, ulcers and other skin problems.

Physical Factors

The plant oil can regulate the hormonal system, getting rid of that oily, tired skin prone to breakouts and healing scars quicker. It also helps to detoxify the body, can treat PMS and symptoms of menopause, as well as balancing vaginal secretion and heavy periods. It balances water systems in the body too, to ensure efficient excretion of waste material. Geranium oil has been known to treat eczema, shingles, cellulite, bruises, ringworm and haemorrhoids.

Natural Smell

The oil has a sweet rose smell with hints of mint, making it a perfect fragrance to bring the outside in without being suffocated by overpowering floral scents. But once upon a time, Geraniums were planted around the house to help keep evil spirits at bay!

No Side-effects

Considering geranium oil is non-toxic, non-irritant, antiseptic and generally non-sensitising, it is not known to cause any side-effects unless you are sensitive to it specifically. However, you may want to avoid it during pregnancy so its hormonal regulation properties don’t interfere.

To reap the benefits of this magical geranium oil, take a look at our Waft range. We also use lavender, peppermint and lemongrass oils – the properties of which you can find on our blog!
