LoofCo is our own unique range of pads, brushes & accessories for washing-up, household cleaning & personal care. LoofCo products are made with sustainable plant fibres of loofah plant and coconut (Loofah + Coconut = LoofCo!). LoofCo products are plastic-free, biodegradable, recyclable and offer an effective alternative to plastic scourers, brushes, exfoliators and sponges.
LoofCo products are based on traditional designs, proven over generations, that are highly effective for your washing-up and cleaning needs. When immersed in water, loofahs transform and expand into spongy, flexible yet robust pads. This makes them perfect for household cleaning, while also proving to be a soft, gentle skin exfoliator for your personal care routine. Coconut coir fibres remains stiff when wet, whilst also holding liquid, giving excellent non-scratch scrubbing power. Both coconut and loofah plant fibres are durable enough to last for months, making them a cost effective solution too!

Our mission is to offer an alternative to mass-produced plastic washing-up brushes, pads, scouers and shower puffs that will not biodegrade. LoofCo farming practices are sustainable and to the highest environmental standards. Coconut and Loofah are both renewable raw materials that absorb CO2 when growing. Furthermore, we use coconut fibres and husks that are left over from coconut food and oil production which would otherwise be wasted or burnt. All elements of LoofCo products are 100% compostable and biodegradable, except the metal core of the brushes which is recyclable. Our cardboard packaging is recyclable.

LoofCo products are inspired by cleaning methods that have been tried and tested over generations. Using this knowledge, they are skilfully created in Sri Lanka and Egypt. We take care to ensure that local farmers and production workers have an inclusive workplace, are treated fairly with wages and benefits, such as medical insurance, higher than normal rates. No children are employed. LoofCo Products are Vegan. Some coconut producers use monkeys to aid with their harvest. LoofCo coconuts are not harvested in this way and are registered with the Vegan Society.

Loofah plant is a vigorously growing vine from the cucumber family that is rich in durable fibres yet soft and flexible. When ripe, the inside of the loofah fruit develops a network of fibres that are perfect for cleaning and exfoliating purposes when dried. Our loofahs are harvested, peeled, deseeded, then dried, cut into lengths and processed by hand in Egypt. This natural tradition that has been passed down through the generations.
Coconut coir is the naturally bacteria resistant, fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer brown coconut husk. LoofCo uses coir fibre that is a by-product of coconut food and oil production and might otherwise be burnt. We twist coconut coir fibre around a 100% recyclable, galvanised rust-proof metal core and add a metal hanging loop for easy use and draining. Coir fibre remains stiff when wet, holds liquids well giving the coconut husk additional scrubbing power.

Loofah is a fast-growing vine related to cucumber. LoofCo uses Egyptian Luffa Aegyptiaca, valued for durable yet soft fibres. Mature gourds are harvested, peeled, cleaned, and dried to create our natural cleaning and exfoliating products. This traditional process has been passed through generations. Loofah is fully biodegradable and compostable at end of life.

Coir fibre is made from coconut husks in Sri Lanka and is a strong, water-resistant by-product of the coconut industry. LoofCo uses coir to create durable brushes, scrubbers, and mats while reducing agricultural waste and supporting local communities. Handcrafted coir products are renewable, biodegradable, compostable, and naturally connected to sustainable living.

Jute fibre is a soft, shiny plant fibre spun into strong threads. LoofCo sources jute from Bangladesh, where jute farming is a vital crop. Jute grows quickly in 4–6 months, improves soil fertility, and requires minimal water or chemicals. As a renewable material, it is biodegradable, compostable, and environmentally sustainable throughout its lifecycle.

Sisal fibre comes from the fast-growing Agave sisalana plant sourced from sustainable farming communities in Tanzania and Kenya. Sisal thrives in dry conditions with little water or chemicals, making it eco-friendly. Nearly every part of the plant is used, reducing waste. Sisal is biodegradable and compostable.

Cotton fibre used for LoofCo cloth is sustainably produced in Egypt without dyes, bleach, harsh chemicals, or formaldehyde. Maintaining its natural purity reduces water use and makes it safer for skin and the environment. Untreated cotton biodegrades quickly and is fully compostable.

Rubberwood comes from the Hevea brasiliensis tree in Sri Lanka after latex production ends, giving the timber a second life. LoofCo uses this renewable hardwood for durable handles. Trees are replanted regularly on existing plantations, avoiding deforestation. Harvesting after latex use reduces waste, and the wood naturally biodegrades safely.

Alstonia wood comes from fast-growing tropical trees in Sri Lanka. Sustainably harvested near production areas, it helps reduce transport emissions. The lightweight, soft wood is easy to shape and ideal for LoofCo brush handles. Alstonia trees mature quickly, so the wood is considered a renewable, environmentally responsible natural resource.
LoofCo products are made from renewable, biodegradable plant fibres—no microplastics, no landfill. Our coconut coir is upcycled from food and oil production waste, while loofahs absorb CO₂ as they grow.
We use recyclable packaging, rubberwood handles from retired rubber trees, and carbon-neutral shipping. Even our metal brush cores are recyclable.
As a Sedex member, we uphold ethical labour practices and environmental responsibility at every level of the supply chain.
